This is one of the oldest major marine engine shows in the nation with over 300 exhibits. \nExhibitors come from near and far and many of the engines will be operating as well as the day they were first purchased. Steamers huffing and puffing\, inboards chugging away in their mounting stands\, outboards stirring up water in the rain barrels and models of all types converting air pressure or electricity into rotary power on the bench and in the model pool. \nYou cannot help but enjoy this stroll through marine engine history. DESCRIPTION:The Annual Community Carol Sing will be held on Sunday\, December 17\, 2023. Mystic Seaport visitors will be admitted Free of charge on this day from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm with a non-perishable food item. As in the past\, donations of non-perishable food will be collected as well as monetary donations and are to be accepted at the North Gate and the South Gate. The donated food and contributions will be given to the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center. \nThe Mystic Seaport Carolers will perform a holiday concert in the Greenmanville Church at 2 p.m. The Carol Sing will commence on the deck of the Thompson Exhibition Building and McGraw Quadrangle at 3 p.m. led by Associate Professor of Music and Director of Choral Studies at the University of Connecticut\, Jamie Spillane\, and backed by The Mystic Seaport Museum Carolers\, and a brass quartet. \nVisitors should meet on the quad just before 3:00pm. We will discuss the science behind what causes this beautiful phenomenon\, and the show includes a dazzling display of the Northern Lights on the dome overhead. \n“Polar Night\, Arctic Light”\n12:00 PM & 3:00 PM \nThis 30-minute show journeys above the Arctic Circle to learn about a time of year when the Sun never rises (Polar Night) before discovering constellations as seen by the Inuit Native Americans who call this region their home (Arctic Light).
