SUMMARY:December Kids Week at the Mashantucket-Pequot Museum
DESCRIPTION:Families and friends are invited to come out to the Mashantucket-Pequot Museum for a week of native crafts\, fun and edutainment. Free with Admission \nThere will be crafts and special highlights in the museum each day\, Gathering Space and various tours and workshops. Workshops and tours are on a first-come\, first-served basis. Reservations cannot be made in advance. \nFur Table: Stop by our Fur table in the Gathering Space where you can sort through various fur pelts to see if you can figure out what animal it is. \nPinch Pottery: Stop by to make and shape a small traditional-style Northeastern pinch pot. \nFox Art Project: While doing an engaging hand on art project\, children will learn facts about the Red Fox\, their habits in the winter\, and the relationship between the Fox and the Mashantucket Pequot People \nGuide Tour: Imaginations soar with the sights and sounds of a 16th century Pequot Village. This tour promotes understanding of Pequot life before European contact and demonstrates the importance of family and community. \nHubbub: Native peoples made Hubbub game pieces from items found in their environment. Historically the pieces would be made from carved bone or antler\, animal teeth\, or small stones. They were engraved\, burned\, polished\, or painted to distinguish the sides. \n13 Moons Presentation: The “Thirteen Moons” program is an in-depth view of the Pequots relationship to the seasons and lifeways. The instructor led program also addresses common Thanksgiving misconceptions and its origin utilizing primary resources for review and open discussion about the “First Thanksgiving”.
