Annual Wethersfield Heritage Weekend and Spring Festival
The Annual Wethersfield Spring Festival is happening Memorial Day weekend on May 27th from 9 am to 4 pm
Join Wethersfield Historical Society, the Webb-Deane-Stevens Museum, and the Town of Wethersfield for the annual Heritage Weekend.
On Saturday, May 27 at 9:00 am, the Town of Wethersfield’s annual Memorial Day parade steps off from the DMV and continues through Old Wethersfield, marching directly past the Keeney Memorial Cultural Center (200 Main Street, Wethersfield). WHS again welcomes Captain Sal Tarantino and Wethersfield’s own Second Continental Light Dragoons, Sheldon’s Horse to the lawn between the Hurlbut-Dunham House and the Keeney Center from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. At 11:00 am, Captain Tarantino will lead a libation ceremony in memory of fallen comrades. Joining the Dragoons will be Revolutionary War cannons and 18th century crafters.
The Keeney Center will be open 10:00 am – 4:00 pm on Saturday and 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm on Sunday. Currently on display are our award-winning exhibits Castle on the Cove: The Connecticut State Prison at Wethersfield and our permanent exhibit Legendary People, Ordinary Lives.
The Hurlbut-Dunham House opens early at 10:00 am on Saturday and our Cove Warehouse Maritime Museum at Cove Park will be open 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm. Both museums will be open from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm on Sunday and on weekends throughout the summer. There is no admission charge, but donations are gratefully accepted.
Revolutionary War re-enactors and horses from the Second Continental Light Dragoons, Sheldon’s Horse (founded in Wethersfield in 1776) and Doughty’s Artillery will be encamped at the Keeney Center. They will participate in the Town’s time-honored Memorial Day Parade at 9 a.m. and then return to the grounds of the Keeney Center with demonstrations and the firing of the canon. The Wethersfield Museum at the Keeney Memorial Cultural Center, the Cove Warehouse Maritime Museum and the Hurlbut-Dunham House next to the Keeney Center will be open for free tours. Also, look out for a Revolutionary War Encampment across the street at the Webb-Deane-Stevnes Museum along with local shop, restaurants, and businesses having special offers. Most of the events take place on the last Saturday of the month with a few on that Sunday.
Join Heirloom Market at the Wethersfield Annual Spring Festival and indulge in a day of local vendors and artisans, exciting kid-friendly activities, informative gardening talks, thousands of spring starts for your garden, and an outdoor summer BBQ. Don’t miss out on our from-scratch baked pies and other delectable treats! Additionally, there will be Alpacas, Henna, and face painting available for your enjoyment. This event promises great food and fun for the entire family
